Reacting quickly and grasping
Grasping large and small objects, lightweight and heavy, fragile and robust: combined with myoelectrically controlled arm prostheses, the SensorHand Speed and VariPlus Speed artificial hands make it possible for the user to hold objects, grasp and be active. The special feature is that the hands can open for a quick reaction – in real time – similar to a natural hand. This gives you spontaneity and the ability to use our prosthetic hand almost naturally.
Myoelectric prostheses generally respond to the respective muscle signals of the wearer. Up to six control programmes with the VariPlus Speed make it possible to tailor the hand prosthesis to the individual needs of the user – depending on whether the wearer can control one or two muscle signals. The gripping force and gripping speed can also be adjusted.
Thanks to the integrated SUVA sensors, the thumb sensor of the SensorHand Speed improves secure gripping and holding. It measures force changes (vector forces) and automatically adjusts the grip if the position of the object changes.
A special mechanism provides the extraordinary gripping speed (15 to 300 mm per second).
Quick-release wrist unit
You can turn the prosthetic hand manually by hand for added flexibility.
Plastic caps on the fingertips provide additional protection for the prosthesis glove from the inside and create a natural feel.
The control electronics permit individual adaptation with up to 7 control programmes.

At maximum speed, the prosthetic hand opens about three times as fast as comparable prosthetic hands. With a proportional speed of 300 mm per second, you are even able to react quickly while grasping.
The integrated Autograsp feature of the SensorHand Speed helps you when an object you are holding starts to slip. The gripping force is increased in fractions of a second until the grasped object is in a safe position again.

Training with Myoelectric Prostheses
The important prosthesis training phase begins for you once you have been fitted with the artificial arm. Making it possible for you to use the artificial arm so it actually helps you in your daily life is the goal. With special exercises, you learn to position the prosthesis correctly to achieve an optimum position for grasping. Once you are sufficiently confident in using your artificial arm, you practice controlling your muscle strength. Items like foam rubber, drinking straws or paper cups help you determine the various amounts of pressure your muscle contractions can produce, and how this affects materials and solidity.
You control your SensorHand Speed or VariPlus Speed prosthetic hand with the help of myoelectric signals. These signals can be measured on the skin surface as soon as you tense certain forearm muscles. Sensors in the socket called electrodes pick up the signals so that they can be converted and ultimately control the motor that moves the hand. This is how you open and close the hand.
Training the muscle signals is perhaps comparable to learning an instrument: practicing regularly is very important. If your socket is properly fitted and your musculature is in good condition, you should already see major progress after about 3 months.
While this is of course possible in principle, it does require practice since you operate the keyboard with the thumb.
We recommend charging the battery overnight. It is integrated in the socket and can be removed separately and charged. The battery lasts for one day depending on the activity level and the chosen capacity.
If the battery is not charged, you can open the artificial hand mechanically as well. Your Prosthetist will practice this with you.
